Yanakie Caravan Park

Adventures

Situated at the gateway to the rugged and pristine Wilsons Promontory National Park, Yanakie Caravan Park is the perfect base to explore the natural wonders of 'The Prom'.

Family-friendly and pet-friendly, Yanakie Caravan Park is located within the spectacular coastal wilderness of ‘Prom Country’ – only a five-minute drive from the entrance to Wilsons Promontory National Park (NP).

Set in a natural bush backdrop, the park is a tranquil spot for adventurous families or those who wish to simply let everything go and chill out. And the kids will also enjoy the great new playground with slides, swings, a nest (a circular seat on a pendulum) and educational games.

Jock Wilson, caravan parks coordinator for South Gippsland Shire Council, said Yanakie Caravan Park boasts an abundance of wildlife and is a great bird-watching locale.

“It also has a number of attractions close by, including the Great Southern Rail Trail, award-winning wineries, fantastic local craft and produce, and the sheltered waters of Shallow Inlet where kiteboarding and windsurfing are popular pastimes,” he said.

Wilson added that the park’s large camping sites can fit a car, boat and tent. And campfires are also permitted outside the fire danger period.

The park (adjacent to the Yanakie boat ramp at Duck Point) also offers stunning waterfront views, overlooking Corner Inlet. And it’s within close proximity to the popular Tidal River settlement.

Families will be enthralled by the myriad of unspoiled beaches, secluded rainforests, native wildlife and granite mountaintops in this region. And there is a multitude of walking trails in the 50,000ha national park.

Yanakie Caravan Park is spread over four hectares, with accommodation comprising self-contained cabins and campsites. There are 12 modern cabins with varying bedding/sleeping and bathroom configurations, along with 16 powered and eight unpowered sites.

“The park has an amenities block comprising toilets, showers and a communal laundry area,” Wilson said.

“We also have a kiosk, plus barbecue and wireless internet facilities. And we’re pet-friendly, although dogs are not allowed in the cabins and must always be on a lead when on site.”

If you’re planning staying at ‘The Prom’, Yanakie Caravan Park provides idyllic surroundings for the perfect family escape!
