Patonga Caravan and Camping Area

102 Bay Street, PATONGA
7 reviews

Patonga Camping Ground is in Brisbane Waters National Park, located between Patonga Creek and Patonga Beach. Visitors to Patonga come for the natural surroundings, tranquility and just to get away.

The idyllic surroundings, spectacular views, and secluded atmosphere make it the perfect spot to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Best of all, it’s only a 1.5 hour drive north of Sydney.

Patonga History:
The area around Patonga was part of the home of the native Guringai people. Patonga provided rich sources of fresh water and food, and the name Patonga is the Aboriginal name for oysters.

The first land auction within Patonga was recorded in 1837. By the beginning of the 20th century, there were some permanent residents at Patonga - some of their descendents still live in the village. At this time there was no road access. Most people arrived by ferry, rowed from Brooklyn or walked the track from Umina via Pearl Beach.

Patonga grew rapidly during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Fish were plentiful and it was possible to live quite cheaply. It also became popular as a weekend get-a-way from Sydney and local dances and parties provided the entertainment of a holiday resort.

The road through to Patonga was built at the end of the 1930s and made the town more accessible. But it has still retained part of its remote feeling and village atmosphere. People still make their living from fishing, and visitors come to relax and enjoy the amazing scenery.

Special Events

Patonga Blues Across the Bay usually takes place the second weekend in November.

If you’ve been here before, you’ll know the drill , but those who don’t, you’ll need to bring your own picnic and drinks, chairs and rugs. You can even bring your swimmers if you feel like a splash.

There is reason why people keep coming back:
•We have stayed true to our principles of presenting only genuine Blues music at its best.
•We don’t stray from that path because we believe our discerning patrons like it that way.
•We keep it small to ensure harmony and comfort for everyone.
•We keep the cost as low as we can to make the festival accessible without compromising quality and safety.

This spot is wonderful. For somewhere close by to built up suburbia it is a real escape. Water virtually on all aspects. Well spaced sites. I don't want to carry on too much people will get to know this place. Nevertheless, a magic little spot

No cabins at this park just lots of tidy roomy powered sites with green mat annex slabs. Good amenities block. No pool or games room, playground nearby as you enter the park. BBQ huts by the water with picnic tables. No road noise at all very quiet park. Ducks to keep you company. The area is lovely to explore, lots of beaches and National parks.

Again, if you prefer to camp by yourself you are constantly discriminated against by these parks who require you to pay double for couples only sites. Avoid!

Patonga park was my first experience in camping.Even though I am new to this type of holidaying my stay at Patonga will remain most memorable. My experience at this holiday park has given me the confidence to embark on new adventures and destinations.Everything about the park was great the facilities the ranges and their willingness to be of service and help whenever required. The facilities were spotless and checked hourly. Plenty of bbq ares and lots of room for the kids to play. The river on one side the beach on the other with the park situated in the middle. A dream for those who love water sports.A short walk away theirs a hotel were you can enjoy a great meal and a cold beer.Final analysis a place you must take the family.
