Lakeland Caravan Park is a quiet, green oasis situated only 80 Kms south west of Cooktown and at the start of the Peninsular Developmental Road. This road takes you all the way to the Tip of the Cape York, the Top of the Australian continent.

Lakeland is not only a great place from which to begin your journey to the Tip of Cape York but also to explore its southern reaches. Take a day trip from Lakeland in any direction and you can see world renowned Aboriginal Rock Art sites, places of historical significance and natural beauty, great fishing and fossicking spots.
The trip to the Tip from Lakeland can be done with relative 4WD ease via the Peninsula developmental road or the added challenge of the infamous Telegraph Track.
An interesting day out can be had driving across Battlecamp
Road via Laura down through Cooktown, then back to Lakeland. There are many things to explore along the way from historical sites to lagoons and waterfalls.
Lakeland is central to many communities in the lower Cape York region which host some fabulous festivals and events throughout the year.

* September - Wallaby Creek Festival
* Rodeos, races and bull rides are all held at Lake, Laura & Cooktown from June to November.
The Crocodile Trophy is the worlds longest and hardest mountain bike ride event and comes to its finish in Cooktown at the end of October.
The Cardiac Challenge, an annual three day charity bike ride from Cairns to Cooktown that raises finds for FNQ Hospitals, stops overnight at Lakeland late September at the end of the second leg.
Markets are held Saturdays nearby at Cooktown, Rossville and Bloomfield.
